Saansad Adarsh
Gram Yojana (SAGY) is a rural development programme launched by the Government
of India in October 2014. The objective of the scheme is to develop model
villages called "Adarsh Grams" through the implementation of
innovative and integrated development projects. Members of parliament (MPs) are
expected to identify and develop one village each in their constituency as an
"Adarsh Gram," with a focus on social and cultural development, as
well as economic development.
Under the Saansad Adarsh Gram
Yojana, the development of an Adarsh Gram involves the provision of basic
amenities such as drinking water, sanitation, electricity, housing, and
connectivity through the construction of roads and bridges. The scheme also
emphasizes the development of social infrastructure, such as schools, health
centres, and community centres, and the promotion of sustainable agriculture,
livestock development, and skill development activities.
The scheme is aimed at creating a
sense of belonging and responsibility among the people of the village, with
active participation of the community in the development process. The
government provides financial support for the development activities, and the
scheme also encourages private sector participation and social mobilization.
