Param is a supercomputer built by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 1991. It was the first supercomputer to be designed and built entirely in India and was used for a wide range of scientific and engineering applications.

The Param supercomputer was built using a combination of custom-designed components and off-the-shelf hardware. It used a parallel processing architecture, which allowed it to perform calculations on multiple processors simultaneously. The machine was built with 32 Intel 486 microprocessors and had a peak performance of 10 million instructions per second (MIPS).

The Param supercomputer was used for a wide range of applications, including weather forecasting, space research, and scientific simulations. It was particularly useful for solving problems that required large amounts of data to be processed simultaneously, such as climate modeling and molecular dynamics simulations.

Over the years, several newer versions of the Param supercomputer were developed, including Param 10000, Param Padma, and Param Yuva. These machines were built with more powerful processors and had much higher performance than the original Param supercomputer.

The Param supercomputer was an important milestone in the development of supercomputing in India and helped establish the country as a major player in the field. Today, India has several supercomputers that are among the fastest and most powerful in the world, and the country continues to invest in the development of new supercomputing technologies.
